Moxibustion

moxibustion, acupuncture, nycMoxibustion is form of heat therapy that involves the burning of mugwort herb or ai ye to stimulate acupuncture points. It is commonly used as an additional modality to acupuncture therapy and can be effective for fertility patients displaying 'cold patterns', patients suffering from menstrual conditions, abnormal vaginal bleeding, assisting with turning breech babies, and chronic pain.

Moxibustion is not good for women who are menopausal, diabetic patients experiencing nerve damage, or anyone that has a nerve condition resulting in numbness or loss of sensation.

The image above displays a patient receiving moxibustion for chronic back pain. Her profession is in marketing and she also does yoga regularly. Moxibustion along with acupuncture helped her continue practicing yoga and gave her the ability to remain seated at her desk for a prolonged period of time without pain.

Moxibustion is also good for those with bulging discs, spinal stenosis, and nerve impingement.
