Acupuncture for Pain

The primary reason people seek medical attention from their doctor is low back pain; low back pain is one of the primary conditions Acupuncturists see in their office as well. With acute pain (under 4 weeks), the body is usually able to heal on its own. Most people tend to seek treatment when the pain lasts for 12 weeks or more.

As of February 2017, The American College of Physicians developed a guideline for the treatment of acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain. The guideline was developed due to over-usage of pharmaceutical drugs and the dangerous side-effects that occur, such as dependence and unintentional overdose.

Currently, medical doctors are recommending non-pharmaceutical treatment as initial options for decreasing pain; acupuncture is one the main treatments proven to significantly decrease chronic low back pain.

What does Acupuncture treat?

  • Cervical and thoracic pain
  • Rotator cuff and other shoulder pain
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Tennis/golfers elbow
  • Knee pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • among many other conditions

While reducing pain is certainly the primary goal, I also focus on pain affecting quality of sleep, home and work functionality, and social disabilities.
